Sleeper

I term used by serious car guys to describe a vehicle that is plain and boring looking but is really fast as shit. Basically it’s a car designed to look like something your grandmother would drive but it has a big bad ass 5.0L V8 engine under the hood.

That 5.0 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec 4-door sedan is a straight up sleeper. It has 440 hp and my grandma loves driving it because it’s easy to drive.

A type of media that found success years/months/weeks/days after its release.

Duncan Laurence’s Arcade, which is a song, is an example of a sleeper hit. It represented the Netherlands (and also their winning song) at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest and later went viral on TikTok in 2021.

Sleeperbloke

The forgettable members of bands who usually hide out of the limelight behind the charismatic lead singer.

This term came out of the 90's UK Britpop scene, from the band Sleeper. It was fronted by Louise Wener (who everyone knew) and 3 other members, who nobody knew.

That band I saw last night was amazing! Louise is an amazing performer, but the others were just sleeperblokes, I can even remember them.
