n. a vehichle (usually a station wagon) that emits blue/black smoke out of the tail pipe and contains at least .5 pounds (8oz.) of rust on the exterior of the vehicle.It must also having missing or non-matching hubcaps. A substitute for the previous desciption would be a broken window cover by plastic. It could be used for activities such as picking up groceries or the mail.

My friend bought a grocery beater and he fills up his oil and checks his gas.

Anyone who is not a member of the upper class / middle-upper class (vast majority of the country then). Can be described as "common" and also relates to 'riff-raff' and 'pleb'. Derogatory meaning, basically a more diplomatic word for chav or simply someone of a low social standing, not very well-off financially and not accustomed to the finer things in life.
