Person 1: Man, I wish it was 2010 again!
Person 2: (While recalling the three messy breakups Person 1 had - two of which they were completely reasonable about and still suffered for months each) What makes you say that?
Person 1: Life was so much simpler and I had like, no problems I couldn't just fix!
Person 2: I guess time away from problems changes your perspective, lest we acknowledge our vulgar nostalgia...

Pokémon Nostalgia Cycle

A phenomina in the Pokémon Community. About 8-10 years after a generation of Pokémon releases, the people who grew up with the generations start glazing the games to death. Sometimes generations are skipped in the cycle (like Gen 2 and Gen 6) and usually join another generation's fans (like Gen 2 fans joining Gen 4 fans due to HGSS).

The cycle started off with Genwunners in the early 2000s-early 2010s, then Gen 3 fans in 2013 with "Hoenn Confirmed!", then Gen 4 fans/Sinnohfetuses in 2017, and then Genfivers in 2021. It will likely shift to Gen 7 fans in a year or two since Pokémon Sun and Moon turns 10 next year.

"I've seen people praising Gen 7 online more recently. Is the Pokémon Nostalgia Cycle shifting again?"

Futuristic nostalgia is the feeling of nostalgia experienced before an event occurs, when a person anticipates a meaningful moment or life phase ending and feels sadness or longing in advance.

Example: Sitting in class before graduation, she was overcome with futuristic nostalgia, already missing the school she had not yet left.

Blinded by Nostalgia 

Blinded by nostalgia is typically a term referring to a player in a video game who knows that they enjoyed a certain newer update of a game, but act as if an older update of the game was better, because it was more "nostalgic", even though the update didn't bring really good stuff.
