The Latin form of the biblical Rebekah known as the wife of Isaac and the mother of Esau and Jacob in the Old Testament. Also the title of a 1938 novel by British author Daphne du Maurier that was adapted into a 1940 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. An enduring name widely used during the 19th century and has since faded in and out of the top 100, peaking at No. 10 during the mid 1970s.
