A guy who will butt in and stop a man from beating a woman. This definition predates E-40's song, as I heard it directly from a Crip who used the term back in the 1980's to talk about how he used to stop dudes from beating on their wives and girlfriends if he thought the situation was getting way out of control, where someone would get killed.
That dude was like captain save a ho on the block, always interrupting anytime a man started slapping his girl around too much.

Everyone has one of these friends: Guy or girl who "calls dibs" on attractive people they don't know so that you, their friend, can't flirt with that person.
When you walk in to the bar he (the Captain Save a ho) says "I like that girl over there" which essentially means "she's mine, you can't talk to her because I might get the courage to talk to her once I'm drunk" He's "savin the ho."
