The belief that feminism needs to be extended and challenged to explain women's experience and expectations that are constantly changing due to cultural and socioeconomic conditions. Sometimes viewed as the belief that feminism is dead or does not represent the challenges that women face today. An alternative term for postfeminism is third wave feminism.

Sometimes postfeminism is considered a conservative belief system or the result of conservatism since the 1980s.

When someone tries to sound overly fancy with their vocabulary, and does not want to use the proper word, "suffix", they may use this term d'art. In this case, the person is creating a variation to "suffix" by using the prefix "post-" (as in "post-war" for "after the war", or "post malone" for "after the era of Karl Malone"
