JROTC

JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) is a high school (middle school in some exceptions) program created in 1916 with the National Defense Act of 1916 in preparation of WWI. This program is used to teach students how to be exceptional leaders and learn certain skills which can help any who join in the future.

Typically, the program is stereotyped by liberals or far left wingers as a war machine made to brainwash kids into working for the US government. Typically, stereotyped by jocks/athletic students as a place for nerds or army roleplayers.
Left winger: 'Oh no! Another person being brainwashed by the war machine! DOWN WITH JROTC!' (Actual scenario happened at my old school.)

Informed student/JROTC Cadet: 'No. They're just learning actual skills for their future instead of picking up a sign and yelling.'
--------
Jock: 'HA! Nerds! JROTC is full of nerds!' (Incorrect. Plenty of 'jocks' have joined JROTC.)

Cadet: 'Not really. We're learning life skills.'

JROTC

The mission of JROTC is to encourage young people to become better citizens. There's usually days for drill & ceremony, PT, uniform inspection, and academics. There are also teams that you choose to join after school such as Drill Team, Color Guard, Rifle Team, Raiders, etc. JROTC students are also usually in charge of flag detail (raising/lowering the US and state flag in front of the school) in the morning and afternoon. You get cords, ribbons, arches, and medals for joining teams, attending parades, getting good grades, etc. JROTC usually has a bunch of attractive, in-shape guys ;)
Kendra: Hey Jane, have you seen our battalion XO?
Jane: XO?
Kendra: Oh, right you're not in JROTC. Well, he's probably the hottest guy to ever walk the earth

JROTC

An elective in high school you can take simply for the high school credit. It counts as 1 practical arts credit per year. Everything military-esque that is done in the class is completly optional. A cadet does not have to wear his uniform if he/she does not want too; for example. Another thing that is often misunderstood is that by doing JROTC in high school you are NOT obligated to ANY sort of military commitment once you finish high school.
Guy: Hey man I see you're in JROTC, what branch are you going into when you graduate?
Guy2: Haha, you don't have to join the military if you're in JROTC, I'm just in it for the fun.

JROTC

an elective class in high school in which all the students of that class wear the same uniform every wednesday.
it is, as most people agree, impossible to fail because there are no hard tests and all you have to do is shave and get a trim tuesday night, or whenever you want to before wednesday (as you have to to be "presentable).
when you join the class, all you can talk about is the class, and it reflects upon your conversational skills
the class teaches students to be like the air force, and the instructors take its campiness like its serious.
Fact: John Jay HS in San Antonio (Spurstown) has the largest Air Force ROTC unit anywhere

do not get into a fight with an ROTC cadet, as ROTC works like a gang, and every member will be on you
-Hey, you take JROTC
--yes
-I hate it, you're a dork for being in it, and i will punch you
--really?
-yup *punch*...oh crap!
*punch punch punch punch*
--do ya hate it now?!
