Dallas-Fort Worth

The largest metropolis of Texas. As of 2007, the fastest growing metro area in the country and home to almost 6 million residents. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is almost nothing but a sea of similar looking cookie cutter housing developments that continue unabated for miles and miles across the plains of north-central Texas. All the Metroplex cities are almost the same; Garland looks like Plano looks like Carrolton looks like Irving looks like Mesquite. The DFW Metroplex has more shopping malls than anywhere else in the U.S. The massive DFW Airport lies between Dallas and Fort Worth and is the 4th busiest airport in the U.S. as well as being the main hub for American Airlines. Despite being in the same metro area, Dallas and Forth Worth are vastly different. Fort Worth is way more “western” and friendly while Dallas is more haughty and “yuppie” or urban-professional. The Dallas-Fort Worth area was traditionally driven by big oil but is now reliant on high-tech industries, wholesale/retail trade and financial services. There are more millionaire oil magnates in the DFW area than anywhere else in the U.S. People in Dallas-Fort Worth generally drive either SUVs or pickup trucks. The woman are hot for the most part. Most of the people adhere to the religion of Dallas Cowboys football on Sundays.

Dallas-Fort Worth is a good place to live depending on where you are from. It's a surburban mix of Midwestern and southwestern culture rolled into one.

So Fort Worth 

Down for whatever. If we trace the down for whatever expression back to its roots, DFW, we begin to see that the brains behind the Dallas Fort Worth area were saying that the city is for people who are up for anything or simply, down for whatever. Instead of saying "I'm Dallas Fort Worth" we simply say "So Fort Worth" which implies that you are completely down for anything.

Friend: Hey you want to catch the UFC fight tonight at Hooters?
Cooler friend: So fort worth (down for whatever - dfw - Dallas Fort Worth)

Dallas-Fort Worth

The sea of cookie cutter suburban hell set in the middle of North Central Texas. Also called The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex or DFW by locals. All the Metroplex cities are the same. If you were beamed into Arlington, Grapevine or Farmers Branch or Garland or Plano, you wouldn't be able to tell which one you were in. How are you supposed to distinguish among various outlets of Mattress Giants, look alike subdivisions and thousands of redundant strip malls?

I'm moving to Dallas-Fort Worth next month.

Fort Murder Worth 

From the 1980s to the early 2000s, gang violence was so common Fort Worth was nicknamed “Murder Worth.”

Gang shootings happened every night. The gang activity was so high the TV show “COPS” came to Fort Worth to film.

The TV show cops came to Fort Worth in the 1980s and 1990s, because they had a much higher probability of catching some action on their camera due to high levels of gang activity.

The gang violence was a staple in many families with the most notorious being, William's, Stone's, Sneed, Ewing's, Ross, Henderson and Gibson families respectively. All of these families where deeply involved in gang violence and targeted by the police due to their continued gang ties.

Every weekend there was a ritual, which started at what was then called the Aragon Ballroom. Gang members would meet at the ballroom, where a shoot-out would usually ensue. It was in one of these incidents

Fights between the different gangs in Fort Worth were commonplace.

About 25 years ago, 201 individuals were murdered in gang-related instances, including 55 young people in one year, in Fort Worth

The most active street gangs in Fort Worth are the Crips, Sureños, Bloods and Latin Kings, according to TDPS.

Currently, there are 75 documented and confirmed active gangs with 2,711 active members in Fort Worth, said Jesus Alaniz Fort Worth Police Department sergeant and Gang Enforcement Team Two supervisor.

Forkworthy 

An act of extreme brilliance, intelligence, lunacy, originality, or douchebaggery. Usually a product of spur of the moments activities and friendly competition. A "forkworthy" act defies most common logic and always results in the transference of a meaningful yet utterly useless white plastic fork.
