degrowth

1) The theory and/or practice of rejecting the economic growth paradigm, largely for ecological reasons. See also "steady-state economy".

2) The theory and/or practice of a planned and managed contraction (shrinking or rightsizing) of the economy down to a more sustainable size, also largely for ecological reasons.

3) A euphemism for ecological austerity of some sort.

4) Any combination of 1, 2, or 3 above.

We are well past the point of sustainability, and can no longer rely on "green growth" to save the planet. We need degrowth to rightsize the human enterprise to sustainability.
