gandy dancer

Gandy dancer is a slang term for workers who maintained railroads in North America. For each stroke, a worker would lift his gandy (a long handled tool) and force it into the ballast to create a fulcrum, then throw himself sideways using the gandy to check his full weight (making the "huh" sound recorded in the lyrics below) so the gandy would push the rail toward the inside of the curve. Even with all impacts from the work crew timed correctly, any progress made in shifting the track would not become visible until after a large number of repetitions.

Rhythm was necessary for this process, both to synchronize the manual labor, and to maintain the morale of workers whose exertions produced only a minuscule effect; hence "gandy dancers". The songs sung in this occupation have been recognized as a major influence on later blues music

Hoochie Coochie Dancer

The Hoochie Coochie was a sexually provocative dance that originated at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876. It became more widely popular in 1893 during the Chicago World's Fair.

The term "Hoochie-Coochie Girls" was utilized by Carnival Barkers to describe scantily clad female dancers performing in side shows. The term was used up to the early 60's. Many older people still use the term to describe modern day strippers.

Dangeresque

A modern film classic. The main character is Strong Bad, a seasoned actor and performer. He uses no stunt doubles, especially not Strong Bad. The sequel is called "Dangeresque 2" -- you can catch a sneak preview in Strong Bad's 80th fan mail. "Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective" comes out in June 2004 and is in 3D!

closet dancer

1 : somebody who is too shy to dance in public areas, yet has no problem breaking out the moves in his/her bedroom

2 : somebody that learned how to dance by dancing and looking at themselves in the mirror

3 : somebody that surprised their friends with his/her dance moves at the club, because nobody had ever seen them dance before

"damn, where did he learn how to dance like that?"

- ah, he's a closet dancer.

"how did she get so good? where are her moves from?"
