A weak genre of music that's not at all technical or challenging to play. It consists of dressing up in boiler suits and masks and playing one fingered downtuned powerchords constantly, as Nu Metal groups are unable to play decent leads or solos.

1)The resulting hybrid of proper old metal bands and contempory talentless losers. The ability to sing or play instruments well is not considered to be an important issue, so long as the frontman (usually a man) can scream loudly and wear halloween masks on stage (most likey as they are ashamed to show their faces because they know their 'music' stinks). The bands themselves are also aware that they lack lyrical talent, and so scream inaudiable words in the hope that no one actually hears their pretentious ramblings regarding suicide and hating the world.
2)Such bands tend to attract an array of 'rebellious' youth, aging between 8 and 15. However, Nu Metal can also be listened to by older people, who sadly failed to outgrow it. Nu Metal tends to be a phase in a person's life that will come to an abrupt end, when it is discovered that ones parents are no longer shocked by its irratingly pretentious content, and/or it is no longer considered 'cool' amongst ones peers.

Much to the dismay of "old" metal fans, this "nu metal" is much accepted by todays culture. Old bands such as Pantera and Slayer had great musical talent, however today's listeners are typically more interested in the cross over of rap with the old sounds of metal. Nu Metal also includes more of an emphasis on the lower chords rather than the high pitched, more complexed chords played by the "original" metal bands. Nu metal music is also are accompanied by yelling and shrill screams, which in most cases should be deemed pointless. Regardless of wether or not you want to consider it "true" metal, this new genre IS here to stay... go, bitch and moan in your closet.
One last thing, you are all going to die while this genreation of music will live on until a next comes along. So why don't all you "haters" go, put on your Slayer albums and cry about how bad your life has become because of nu metal. waaaaah

A subgenre of music that was largely popular from 1996 - 2002 mostly. It still has a moderate following as of 2010 though. Bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Clawfinger, Disturbed, Hed PE, Linkin Park, Coal Chamber, and Vanilla Ice can all be considered Nu Metal bands. It has a subculture and the typical clothhing style of said subculture are baggy jeans/shorts, tattoos, piercings, Adidas brand shoes and clothing, skateboarding brand clothes and shoes(Adio, Etnies, DC Shoes, Vans, etc.) and sometimes dyed and/or spiked hair. Traditional Metalheads hate it due to the fact that Nu Metal dosen't have guitar solos and is more angsty thus making them say it is "Un Metal". I personally think it is the greatest genre of Rock/Metal to have ever been made!

A much hated and derided form of music that got popular somewhere between Nirvana and The Spice Girls. It basically took all the complexities of metal and replaced it with rap/hip hop elements.
Bands included: Limp Bizkit,Korn,Slipknot,Insane Clown Posse,Papa Roach and,to an extent,Evanescence and Lostprophets.
Mostly they were shitty beyond shitty but some bands were occasionally good. Korn usually throw out brilliant mosh music and Slipknot are always entertaning.
Nu metal was regarded by some as 80 hair metal for the modern generation,many more publically blasted it but secretly enjoyed it. That's what Nu Metal was really: a HUGE guilty pleasure. Shame on us all for being a part of it.
Once Limp Bizkit lumbered along the horizon,that dumb fuck Fred Durst singing about "Nookie" and "Rollin" like the bastard child of Vannila Ice and Monica Lewinsky,Nu Metal was officially dead. If it was ever alive,that is.
Nu Metal has been succesfully glossed over in the history books,much like Bon Jovi or The War. Slipknot are still trodding their music out to an ever depleating fanbase of 8 year olds,Korn are still doing their things like a 90s nostalgia act and everybody else has either died or retired. Linkin Park have "removed" their Nu Metal sound and Papa Roach has "gone sexy". Heaven help us!

Nu metal is a failed attempt to restart the heavy metal movement which ended in the early 90's. Contrary to popular belief, however, it is not a genre liked soly buy rich suburbian kids trying to piss off their parents and find problems in their life. It is also followed by "classic" metal heads seeking something new to get into. "old" or "classic" metal ended in the 90's when MTV decided metal wasnt cool anymore; and kids being impresionable little freaks started to follow grunge, then alternative, and now punk. Still, metal heads linger banging their heads in the underground and watching concerts theyve seen a million time, which is why Nu Metal came about.
