Gnoming

The act of carrying or transporting an overall useless or underpowered item in a game far past the point it is necessary to have.

The term refers to an achievement from Half Life 2: Episode Two where the player brings a gnome from early in the game to be placed in a rocket at the end.

"Can you believe that he brought that from the starting area to the finale boss?"
