Downsplaining

The universal term for “mansplaining”. It can be applied to anyone who is condescendingly explaining something to someone e.g. whitewashing, middle class ignoring lower class, Heteronormativity.

Alex was caught downsplaining; he told a mechanical engineering graduate about the manufacturing process in Toyota.

dadsplaining

When, upon confirming his target does in fact know how to do something, a dad explains it anyways.

Dad: Hey son, I think it would be good to know how to change a tire in case of emergency.

Son: I actually know how to do that. I popped a tire last year and luckily had a spare. YouTube is super helpful.

Dad: So the first thing you're going to want to do is...

Son: Please stop dadsplaining this to me!

Similar to mansplaining, but used to explain topics outside the realm of expertise in a condescending or patronizing manor to those without parental experience.

The chef was dadsplaining to my astrophysicist colleagues why the Earth is truly flat.
