Militant atheism is a term applied to atheism which is hostile towards religion. This application of the term was an integral part of the materialism of Marxism-Leninism, and significant in the French Revolution, the Soviet Union, and Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.

Atheism is often associated with Nihilism. In some ways they are very similar, such as the rejection of religion. But there are other philosophical paths that do not involve religion, just as good as each other.
