Bae is actually the Danish word for poop. But nowadays, most people from the age of 11 to around 30 use it as a way replace the word babe or what to call your main of another gender.

1. Girl-Hey bae, you wanna go out today.

Guy- Sure.
2. Girl-Bae, you wanna go play ball

What I'm tryna prove in example 2 is that bae may be used to somebody of another gender that ur not involved with but who may be your best friend.
