Deaf

A description unique to Perry County, Pennsylvania describing a nut (such as a hickory nut, walnut, etc.) that is empty; I.e. “meatless.”

I gathered a bucket of hickory nuts out in the woods yesterday and when I cracked them open, half of them were deaf.

kitchen deafness

when person 1 in one room (e.g living room) tries to talk to person 2 in another room (kitchen) but person 2 cannot hear a word person 1 is saying because both rooms are a considerable distance apart.

"my friend always calls out to me when i am in the kitchen and he is in the living room. i can never seem to hear what he is saying in this situation. a sign of kitchen deafness"

Earphone deafness

Deafness to the outside world as a result of earphones inserted ears and music volume turned up very loud. People then underestimate how loud their burps, farts, breathing and yawning are, as theu have limited access to the outside world
