They believe that society in general is doomed because of our openness and tolerance of homosexuality which makes God hate us. They've become infamous for picketing the funerals of US soliders who died in Iraq and Afghanistan because they fight for a country that tolerates homosexuals. They praise their deaths as God's infallable judgement and God's wrath for a society of, as they put it, fags and fag enablers (people who tolerate gays). Surprisingly, most of the church members are very educated, Fred Phelps even was a civil rights lawyer. They've also targeted groups of people besides gays such as the Swedish, the Irish, Jews, Catholics, Muslims, and countless others. Pastor Phelps has also been involved in many political activities, running for several political positions in the state of Kansas as a Democrat.
