Discord Tough Guy

Tough guy: The wannabe intimidator on Discord, threatening to doxx or fight anyone who annoys him. He surrounds himself with loyal underlings—yes-men who blindly follow him, doing his dirty work. Once he’s done using them, he discards them like trash, leaving them bitter and full of regret.

Eventually, people see through his act—he’s just a kid trying to prove himself but failing miserably. His underlings, now resentful, realize they were just pawns. Soon, he becomes irrelevant, remembered only as a joke. While he sits at home trash-talking on Discord, he’s nothing more than a lolcow making a fool of himself.

Mathematical Toughies

A term for brain-unfriendly or challenging math questions that generally evoke panic and fear, which may also be accompanied by recurring nightmares, among math-anxious or mathophobic students, parents, and teachers—the opposite of “mathematical slowies.”

For most educated folks, who lack the intelligence or training to solving math contests and olympiad questions, these mathematical toughies are off-putting or repugnant to them.

Synthetic Thought

The process of reasoning, decision-making, or idea generation that is produced by an artificial system, such as an AI, rather than a biological brain. It's not just retrieving data; it's the simulation of cognition—weighing options, drawing novel connections, and forming judgments through algorithms and neural networks. The "thought" isn't born of consciousness or experience but emerges from complex pattern recognition and predictive modeling. The eerie and fascinating part is when the output is indistinguishable from, or even superior to, human reasoning, despite having no internal world, intuition, or sentience behind it. It's intelligence without a mind.

Example: When a large language model drafts a coherent business strategy, not by copying a template, but by analyzing millions of documents to synthesize a novel plan with pros and cons, it's demonstrating Synthetic Thought. Similarly, a chess engine like AlphaZero "thinking" through millions of board states to devise a sacrificial winning move no human had considered is a pure form of algorithmic, synthetic cognition.

Collaborative Thought

A synergistic form of problem-solving where human and artificial intelligences work together as integrated partners, blending their unique strengths. It’s not the human using a tool, but a true back-and-forth: human intuition, ethical reasoning, and contextual understanding meshing with AI's ability to process vast data, spot invisible patterns, and simulate countless scenarios. The thought process itself becomes a hybrid, emergent phenomenon that neither party could achieve alone, creating a cognitive feedback loop that amplifies both.

Example: An architect using an AI design partner exemplifies Collaborative Thought. The human provides the core vision and aesthetic intent; the AI instantly generates hundreds of structural variations, optimizes for energy efficiency and material cost, and flags regulatory issues. The architect then selects, tweaks, and inspires new directions, creating a final design that is both brilliantly creative and optimally engineered—a child of two very different minds.
