Usually when the other person has strong second thoughts; Sometimes due to social appeal, because of peer pressure, or because the other person has found attraction to someone else.

The alternative proposed by her sister, which is to pretend that she likes him, is equally ridiculous.
Now some women think that Elizabeth seems to be a good role model. Often, the woman can feel wanted since the admirer continues to show her that he likes her, while the admirer suffers since he feels unwanted.

Ironically, women shame men for claiming men are not "owed sex" (implying there was a nefarious plot all along and discounting the fact men can slowly grow to fall in love with a woman and are walking away for that reason, not ownership of her body), but also shame them for walking away, missing the irony that they are not "owed friendship". Men can only be virtuous while they stay firmly entrenched in their utility place.
