Semiliterate

Semiliterate: An adjective describing the state of being only partially or poorly literate. A semiliterate individual may struggle with reading, but their partial literacy is particularly evident in their writing.

Using slang is not itself a sign of being semiliterate, but knowing only the slang definitions of many words may be.

Consistently using the wrong spelling of similar-sounding words such as "their", "there", and "they're" is another common sign of poor literacy skills.

Perhaps the most frustrating sign of semiliteracy is the use of 'netspeak' or 'txt-speak', wherein the writer abbreviates short and simple words for no reason beyond laziness.

English: This test is crucial to passing because it counts for 25% of my grade.
Semiliterate slang: This test is crucial because it's too hard!"

English: "They're going over there to get their equipment."
Semiliterate misuse: "Their going over their to get their equipment."

English: "Why are you writing like that?"
Semiliterate netspeak: "y r u riten lyke dat??"

seminole

The only Native American tribe to never be overtaken by the white government because they're the only tribe to have never signed a peace treaty with the U.S. (They call themselves the "Unconquered People.") Seminoles are a combination of other tribes from other Southeaster states, and also include escaped slaves. While 90% of all Seminoles were moved to Oklahoma, the other 10% stayed in or around the Everglades. In a series of wars, the 300 or so Seminoles defeated about 1,500 American troops. Their combination of fleeing for cover into the Everglades, along with the fact that many of them were runaway slaves, led U.S. troops to roughly translate Seminole to "runaway" in English.

Seminoles are the mascot for Florida State University (FSU).

Semper Standby

When marines are in the midst of being left with out orders, they are therefore told to "standby" Which can be from one minute to an indefinate amount of hours. Leaving the marine to do nothing but sit stare. Which in turn drives marines crazy. Which is followed by crazy ass marines, doing stupid ass shit.

Pfc Smuckatelli: What are we gonna do today?
