The french wave

A dismissive hand gesture that waves a person away, often impatiently or irritatedly. It is frequently made while not even looking at the person, who is usually someone who unwelcomely interrupted the conversation or activities of the person giving the french wave. A normal wave involves mostly motion of the arms and wrist pivoting from left to right; the french wave mostly involves motion of the fingers (which are held together) back and forth as though to say "shoo."

I tried to talk to him while he was watching soccer, and he gave me the french wave.

Seattle Wave

When someone moves to the Seattle area and waves at a local and is met with a blank stare, a look away and/or a frown.

Dude 1: Jim C. was caught unawares the other day while out jogging through his new neighborhood shortly after moving to Seattle.
Dude 2: Why, what happened?
Dude 1: He waved at one of his neighbors but they returned a blank stare and looked away.

Dude 2: Oh, he got the Seattle Wave.

Mazda Wave

The Mazda Wave is a specialized form of communication that may only be used by owners of Mazda vehicles. As Mazda drivers pass each other on the road, they may hold up three fingers facing down in the shape of an “M” as an acknowledgement of fellow Mazda drivers.
