Someone you eat butter with, typically in the sense that you are really hungry at a restaurant waiting for food and all you have is the butter from your bread and butter.

Jeffrey and Viola were at a restaurant and Jeffrey paid Viola $12 to eat four of the things of butter thus insuring a long lifetime of being butter buddies.

When the main reason why two people are friends is a hate towards somebody or something.

A prime example is the muppets Statler and Waldorf. The cornerstone of their friendship is the ridicule of performers on stage.
