gold farmer tan

(noun) the lack of pigment in one's skin due to infrequent exposure to sunlight as a result of playing video games. Most applicable during the summer months, a gold farmer's tan is the sign of staying inside on what would be considered a beautiful day. The term is not limited to those of fair complexion as it corresponds more to the actions of those who forego spending time outside for the comfort of the indoors. Origins of the term point back to a farmer's tan in which one's exposure to sunlight is limited to the forearms and neck. The other part comes from gold farming which is the practice of spending inordinate amounts of time in virtual game environments for the purpose of monetary gain. Both terms, when combined, take on a new meaning as a pejorative for the actions of heavy video game users.
