Indie Britpop Kid

Pretty much like indie kids, but the britpop kids aren't too fussed about their music being 'non-mainstream'. Their bands of choice usually include Oasis, The Libertines & The Fratellis. Most of it is either soft electric or acoustic guitar, and the singers can actually sing.
Indie Boys usually wear jeans, which can be skinny (but not too skinny) or baggy, with an obscure band teeshirt and a bizarrely coloured hoodie and converse/dunlops.
The girls are divided into two groups, there's the indie vintage girls who wear things like tweed, a lot of fifties style things, long knee length socks, silk scarves and look incredibly expensive. The other kind dress more like the boys, with band shirts or just shirts with a cool logo, hoodies, skinny jeans and converse. The indie boy DOES NOT wear make up. The indie girl wears a small amount but not over emo eyeliner and never, ever lipgloss.
New rave is very influential over the indie stereotype and indie kids have taken on a lot of neon-techno-rave gear. Inspired by bands such as Klaxons, CSS, and Hadouken! the basic uniform remains the same except the hoodies become bolder and the girls wear a lot of neon eyeshadow. Large sunglasses (obscure only, mind) are also common amongst indie britpoppers.

Indie Britpop kid: Hey, you okay?
Wannabe Indie Kid: yeah. i totally dig your babyshambles tee.

later that night the wannabe goes home and downloads babyshambles' entire discography.

wannabe is not cool.

Someone who listens to all kinds of rock, especially Alternative rock and bands that have an independent record label.

Started in Great Britain in the 80's,

Bloc Party, Sonic Youth, Brigade, Hot Hot Heat and Radiohead are all kinds of bands indie rockers would listen too

indie

Although often defined as a certain musical category, technically indie would apply to all types of music without a record label. So a person rapping on the corner of a steet without a record label could easily be considered indie just as some weird obscure band. But most people are dumb and dont realize this, so the word indie in general usually applies to rock bands no one heard of.

Me: um, modest mouse i guess.
Lame Bitch: oh, i listen to indie, like boys like girls.

indie ponce

Indie ponce is the term used to describe an adolescent male who believes he is the ultimate indie character. This may be due to fashion, musical talent or general behaviour, most of the times all of these come into consideration. Usually an indie ponce has a select group of friends, which all adore him and believe that he is, in fact, the ultimate indie figure, but rarely has the indie ponce got any friends outside of his small circle.
Common traits:
Style: Skinny jeans, Pointy shoes, cardigans, most often very skinny in physique, most commonly to have a tattoo of either song lyrics or poetry in Latin or Italian.
Musical Talent: Often thought of as a 21st Century Poet, by himself or his inner circle, he believes he is the modern day version of T. S. Eliot and Hunter S. Thompson combined in one skinny indie kid.
General Behaviour: Generally of Public school background, will always be in a relationship with an indie cindy, only ever drinks Jack Daniels and Coke, believes that ‘being spotted’ is key to everything.
Heroes: Pete Doherty, J. D Salinger, Shakespeare, T. S. Eliot, Hunter S. Thompson, His parents.

environmental indie hipster

The perfect balance of everything a college student should encompass. An environmental indie hipster recycles, doesn't eat meat, dances wildly to non-mainstream bands, hangs out in coffee shops while refusing to drink anything but fair-trade or rain forest certified coffee, eats local/organic food, buys all their clothes from thrift stores, and at night tends to dance to funky music while by day takes university classes on how to save the world.

Environmental indie hipster: Starbucks sucks because it is corporate bullshit.
Non environmental indie hipster: But I love the double, mocha frappachinos!
EIH: u suck.

indie

as a mindset, a movement that revolves around choosing music, clothing and general culture based on their individual benefits and 'pros' so to speak; also could be incarnated in one who isnt overly pretentious because of someone else's opinions. Not to be confused with indie yuppies who are typically malinformed rich white kids, elitist about their tastes whilst not quite having the intellect to back up their own opinions.

I like the shins based on the atmosphere that their songs give, and the way in which they alter my mood, not just because i saw them on garden state.

This brand isn't particualrly 'cool' but i like this shirt so i will buy it and not fuck around because someone else doesnt

Jerk Indie

A genre of music that is pretentious, art-focused indie rock. Fans of jerk indie usually include hipsters and art school students with black rimmed glasses.
