It works by using two magnetically coupled coils to induce a current in the second coil via a changing magnetic field created by the first coil, a principle known as mutual induction. I thought we were talking about the cool robot cars, but then my buddy started explaining how a transformer actually changes voltage levels in electrical circuits—definitely not as exciting, but way more useful!
