Snuffies

In the Marine Corps, especially during Vietnam…
Privates through Lance Corporals were usually referred to as “Snuffies,” because these FNGs (Fuckin’ New Guys) would usually find themselves on “Point” positions of patrols, and usually the first ones to get “snuffed-out” (shot or killed) during any ambush and/or encounter with the enemy.

"Lance Corporal, take PFC (or FNG) Whoever; you two Snuffies are on Point!"
