When an upperclassmen in high school is attracted to a sophomore, they have caught a case of Sophomore Syndrome. Any flirting, nude-sending, or exchanges of looks are affiliated with Sophomore Syndrome.

She used to say that she would never date a sophomore, but little did she know she already had Sophomore Syndrome.

sophomore year

The first legit year of high school. This is the year when you start to have a more authentic high school experience unlike freshman year. Most people are turning 16, you can get your license, get a job, and have a lot more independence overall. Classes are harder than the year before, more is expected of you. You kind of have to have some idea of what college you want to go to so you can a head start on requirements etc. despite all the hype of not being a freshman anymore, you're still not really an "upperclassmen" until junior year. unfortunately.

Freshman: "Eh, I hate being a freshman, it's boring and basically like 8th grade."

Sophomore: "It'll get better. Next year you can get your drivers license and stuff. sophomore year is where it's at."

sophomore slump

n. Disappointing follow-up to a successful first record album. The term can be applied to a follow-up to a band's first major label release, rather than exclusively to the first release in any format, and can refer either to album sales or critical reception. Sophmore slumps often occur when a band or singer experiences far greater popularity than expected, and is pressured to release new material quickly in order to stay in the public spotlight, or when expectations of follow-up releases are simply too high to be met, due to the success of the first album. A sophomore slump can also occur when a band is ridiculously overhyped and sells millions of records to scenesters and posers, but by the time the second album rolls around even the scenesters and poser have figured out that they actually suck.

Hey, you ever heard of Vampire Weekend? Those guys are a sophomore slump just waiting to happen.
