Someone who wears the t-shirt/apparel of an event on the day of the event, hence "day of". The person wearing the t-shirt is likely a novice at whatever event is occurring, hence their proclivity to wear their newly acquired gear.
Examples include: some sporting event or race, regattas, marathons, any large group event.
