virtue signalling

Advocating a political or philosophical position, and/or taking up a public cause, from a position of vanity, for the primary purpose of demonstrating your conformity with fashionable pop culture values.
Angela's sudden advocacy for the local pet shelter was mostly an exercise in public relations and virtue signalling. She had never much cared for dogs and cats before, but she instinctively understood teary-eyed public support for defenseless animals generally said something good about her as a person.

Virtue Signalling

One of the many nauseating buzzwords used by conservatives as an alternative to constructing a coherent argument.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean anything - and actually doubles as a good way to spot cretins in the wild.
This guy just said virtue signalling unironically, let’s get away from this asshat”

virtue signalling

A phenomena where someone campaigns for or otherwise shows their support for an often popular position without actually doing anything meaningful to further the cause that they claim to champion. This is one of the main signs of late democracy and otherwise shows the prevalence of cult figures in a society: political or otherwise.
Also takes form with "thoughts and prayers", and other meaningless statements.
-Damn, all of these people are virtue signalling about the Freedom Convoy.
-The easiest way to become respected on twitter is to virtue signal in support of trans rights.

Virtue-signaling

Virtue-signaling (noun): the self-serving, disingenuous act of presenting & solidifying oneself as concerned with, committed to, or compliant to a specific political alignment regarding political topics or issues for prestige or ego.
If the President genuinely cared about women's rights, he'd do less virtue-signaling on Twitter and more action.

Virtue Signaling

A virtue signaler is a trendy poser ego-maniac who perplexes old school trailblazing liberals. Their ego takes precedence over the actual issue, and it's painfully obvious. It's also a great rebuttal tp a meritless claim that one is racist.
Debator: Remember when we all used to get along? At least it seemed that way. Now social media is perpetuating shock value and BLM seems to have been hijacked by violence.
Virtue signaler: You're just racist. Black Lives Matter!
Debator: Yes they do! What you don't know is that they matter more than your virtue signaling.

Tom:
Did you see Professor Trogan driving his Tesla to Berkeley today.

Ted: Yeah he was just virtue signaling before his gender unicorn lecture.

Virtue Signaling

Taking a selfie with a COVID mask to show that you are complying with CDC recommendations to protect your neighbor even though you are perfectly healthy.

Also...adding a "frame" to your profile picture saying that you got vaccinated.
She posted another masked selfie...she is just virtue signaling
