New Found Glory is considered to be the band which brought Pop Punk into the spotlight and influenced all of the bands above to some extent.
Fall out boy, Sum 41, Simple Plan, ect. are not pop punk. They are no different than mainstream top 40 artists like brittney spears or miley cirus. They use the same gimmicky pop hooks and overproduction except with guitars and awful fucking clothing.

Ok Lets keep this simple. I bet many of you people are confuse. Pop-punk is just punk but in a softer and more way of understanding what the lyrics is. Most of the time it doesnt contain any political lyric or agression. Its mostly based on love. Obiously the music is a lot different from actual punk. 3 strings guitar for punk. Vocalist goes way fast u may not even understand it. While pop punk is basically pop with a little influence of punk. Most pop-punk bands sell out to the media or ***sound poppy*** because many people like the tune..........I could understand if u like it because its easier to understand. Punk is still more intelligent more and more conterversial. Awesome lyrics knowing whats going on in today's society. Usually kids who tend to like pop-punk are more trendy and fashinable with patches everywhere on some fabric. No you dont need to be wearing different type of clothing in order to be what you are.

A fusion genre of pop and punk rock music, combining elements from the genre to create softer subjects of music while keeping the loud and anarchy-inspired noise of the punk rock. Before the 21st Century, it was quite unpopular and unknown to most, but has recently been given more notice by the rise of Warped Tour type bands such as All Time Low and The Wonder Years. Bands such as Green Day and blink-182 helped to popularize this genre and maybe even create it themselves. Pop Punk of this decade, however has been sounding more terrible as it is progressing with the horrible Warped Tour bands mentioned above, as they're turning it into a contradiction, since punk is anti-mainstream and pop is the definition of mainstream music.

all of the people trying to steer people who like pop punk in another direction should stop. pop punk is just an alternative to punk. nobody cares if you think its good. let people make their music. dont listen to it if you dont want to.

Nobody here has once said that Pop-Punk usually involves harmonies, and being creative with different progressions. The only reason the word "Pop" is in front of punk, is because melodies are a lot more structured and clearer. It's just music that is easy on the ears, and usually talks about love, failure, and life. Much like the golden 50's, Pop-Punk is the equivelent to doo-wop bands like the early Beatles and The temptations. Though there can be many bad Pop-punk bands who sing about going to school and riding skateboards, it is just a form of music for the youth. I just say that back in the day, it was ok to sing about love, but what happened?
