Distracted Consciousness

The "Distracted consciousness" differs from the Marxist idea of "false consciousness" in as much as the individual suffering from this state of distraction is no longer fully aware of life around them: they have become a human doing, no longer a human being.

“The girl with no mobile phone had never herself seen fit to buy a mobile phone (in all her life) – being not only against them as invaders of privacy, but moreover, viewing mobile phones as symbols of the wider “distracted consciousness”: a curse now plaguing mankind far and wide. In fact, the girl with no mobile phone constantly witnessed many of her peers fingering away (not the good sort of fingering, either), just another distracted soul startled by the desperateness of existence, looking to fill every single waking and terrifying moment of their life with some pointless textual distraction, instead of just confronting and embracing the stillness, just taking a moment to actually think, reflect and be a human being, not a human doing.”

Used to describe someone who is dealing with a lot of emotional turmoil and cannot focus on the correct path enough to follow it.

She cannot call me to tell me she misses me because she is distracted with problems in the real world.

Diverted attention while eating either solo or with others. May occur in a private residence, or at a restaurant or public event. Minor distractions may include obnoxious people in the vicinity; major disturbances may include medical or police emergencies.

I had a distracted dining experience last Thanksgiving. My sister's baby wouldn't stop crying and fussing.

A guy collapsed in the cafeteria the other day. We had to call paramedics. It was definitely distracted dining.

distracted dressing

Diverted attention while getting dressed which can lead to incorrectly worn clothing. Causes may include television viewing, use of electronic devices, or conversing/arguing with others while dressing. May result in mismatched socks, unzipped fly, inaccurate buttoning or wardrobe malfunction, etc.

I forgot to put on my belt when getting dressed today. My pants kept falling down. It was a case of distracted dressing.

Sexually Distracted

The inability to react or get tasks finished because one is involved with a sexual activity with oneself or another. Usually a good reason to explain why you didnt do something.
