Sad face, was created by 2 friends on msn when the messenger automatically turned their :< into the msn sad face.

In frustration the use of the semi-colon was used instead of the colon creating the sad face smiley.

This type of smiley is used randomly and is sometimes overused, even if the person is happy.

It is also used after the person has sad something funny.
