Maintenance Texts

Sending text messages to those people you'd like to date "Someday" or "eventually" to remind them that you exist. It's a low effort way to maintain a connection without having to really commit to anything serious.

Q: "Have you heard from that guy you met in that bar last week?"

A: "Yeah, he's sent me a few maintenance texts tonight, asking where we were but not wanting to meet up. LAME!"

texting 

The common practice of typing messages on a cell phone to recipients, rather than just just take the twelve seconds to call someone. Most often performed by teenage girls, these messages often include such front page news as: "OMG did U C her @ss? Itz HGE" or perhaps the ever-popular "WTF? Dani just broke up wit James!!!11!"

These messages are often life-changing, as it seems that nobody ever actually speaks to one another anymore.

My favorite example of the texting is when a teenage girl is driving, head bent down facing her cell phone, as she texts while in traffic. Young teenage girls are considered the best drivers, so surely something as simple as texting would never take away from their near-perfect driving skills. This is often proven by the practice of never using turn signals, as telling Katelyn about when to pick her up at the mall is WAY more important than letting the cars behind you know that you are about to cross three lanes of traffic.

All in all, perhaps a few head-on collisions and loss of driving privileges will be a good little lesson to the self-absorbed teenagers of today.

Christmas texts 

The text messages, BlackBerry Messenger messages, etc. messages, that one receives on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve. May become annoying after many are received.

Can be used for several purposes:

1. To gain attention from peers. Often interpreted as sincerely spreading Christmas cheer.

2. To sincerely spread Christmas cheer. Often interpreted as gaining attention from peers.

3. To send a mass text to all one's contacts with the hidden intent of sending a message to the ex who no longer talks to you but you still care about. Is often brutally obvious. The sender often needs to move on and fucking forget about it.

4. Something to do when your family is making you bored as hell.

5. To make fun of your Jewish friends.

textploitation 

TV shows etc, normally targetted at teenagers, persistently demanding viewers to send text messages from their mobile phone (cellphone), either to win prizes or simply cast a vote (for their favourite contestant, for example).
Some TV programmes seem to exist for this sole purpose, with a flimsy game show format as the pretext for the programme, which is really quite incidental to the persistent demand to text the show. Texts are normally charged at "£1, plus your standard network rate."

textcrastinate 

To delay/wait texting back someone who has sent you a text in order not to appear overly excited about the fact that they texted you. This is especially true when it is someone you are interested in.

I'm so excited....John just texted me! I am going to textcrastinate as long as possible before I reply.
