A 4th generation game console released by Nintendo. The gameboy has terrible graphics and specs and still managed to become the 3rd bestselling handheld console. The gameboy is also a term for anything gaming related. Gameboy was inneed of an upgrade and in 1996 the gameboy pocket was released then in 1998 came the GameBoy light a japan exclusive console that had a backlight to play when you supposed to be sleeping but instead played the gameboy light instead of sleeping and also the GameBoy Colour a game console that didnt have a backlight but did have a color display. around 1996 came Pokemon Red and Green in japan and 2 years later in 1998 as Pokemon Red and Blue in the rest of the world and revived declining gameboy sales. In total the gameboy and gameboy colour sold 118.69 million units sold worldwide making it the 3rd best selling handheld after the nintendo switch outsold it in december 2022 the Gameboy lasted from 1989-2003 and was succeeded by the gameboy advance in 2001 in total the gameboy line of handhelds were made till 1989-2010 after 25+ years. In november 2004 came the nintendo DS which essentially killed of the gameboy advance and at that point the gameboy line of systems entirely.
