Nations that lack resources could become resource-independent; nations that have resources would lose their leverage. The science is real in principle—transmutation is possible, and advanced materials can be synthesized—but the economics are brutal. It's cheaper to dig things up than to make them from scratch, at least for now. Strategic resource synthesis is the dream of every resource-poor nation and the nightmare of every resource-rich one.
