A term used to describe distribution or release of digital media (such as software, video or music) before it is sold in stores or before it hits the street. Zero-day releases may be pirated or stolen and may break the law, but not all zero-day releases are obtained illegally.

To own a copy of the next version of Windows two weeks before its official release date.

zero-bomb

On Newgrounds - to rate a flash or audio piece 0/5 for the sole purpose of bringing down the rating of that piece of work, for the sole purpose of annoying the author.

Elsewhere - to rate a piece of work the lowest possible grade for the same purpose. (Also called 1-bomb where the lowest rating is 1, but not commonly used outside of Newgrounds.)

Considered a form of spam.

zero cost abstraction

A buzzword usually uttered by someone trying to sell you the idea that you should rewrite your project in Rust. It supposedly means "free" abstractions that don't come with overheads and penalties, but in reality they're anything but free.

If you hear someone use the term zero cost abstraction unironically, run as fast as you possibly can because you're cornered by a snake oil salesman.
