Lieutenant Henry Miller relocated the Moreton Bay penal colony from the Redcliffe Peninsula to the northern bank of the Brisbane River, citing its elevated position with access to water holes and refreshing breezes. On the contrary, the southern bank offered a cliff of rock, ideal for construction, and a fertile floodplain. However, the settlers encountered significant challenges, including a scarcity of resources and thick sub-tropical vegetation, making settlement arduous.
