The concept that idiots are naturally luckier than other people as a way to balance out their stupidity. Similar to an Idiot Savant, except instead of being brilliant in a specific field, they seem to have a little extra luck wherever they go.

Fool's Fortune is most likely god's way to make things fair for dumb people, for if they were smart and lucky, they'd be too powerful.

fool's gold 

When you are duped into thinking a woman is attractive at a distance or from behind based only on the superficial characteristics you can see from that vantage point (such as her hair, whether she has a tan or whether she is engaged in physical activity) only to realize once you get closer that she is not attractive at all or even homely.

Dude, drive in the other lane so we can get a closer look at that hot blonde chick with the long ponytail jogging in a sports bra up ahead. Oops, my bad, looks like I spotted some fool's gold.
