A term that, before the 1980s, meant something that inspired awe. During and after the 80's, meant cool, wonderful, sexy, great, etc.

Prior to 1980s: "That was an awesome sunset." Or, "Our God is an awesome God. "

During and after the 1980s (though briefly replaced by gnarly, epic, etc): "That is an awesome outfit you've got on!" Or, "Where did you get those awesome shoes? "

1.when you are so close to pure awesomeness but mess up at the last minute

2.doing something totally awesome but it ends up hurting/killing you

3.your mistake makes your life unpure

Joe average the race car driver was so close to winning the last race of his life race and making his racing life pure awesomeness but messed up and crashed making his racing life unpure awesomeness
