Tango Down

Modern military slang referring to downing a known hostile operative.

Used immediately after a kill or successful incapacitation of a hostile, to help nearby friendly operatives keep track of imminent threats.

Has seen wide pop culture usage in video games and movies, mainly by characters in tactical squads engaging terrorists.

I have a hostile in my sights. Tango down.

The exact opposite of the phrase "Man up".

Jeff was firing two Benelli M3s at the same time at the shooting range earlier. He needed to "Pussy Down", there wasn't enough manliness at the range for all of us.

A request to someone to admit they are wrong.

In reference to Donald Trump's infamous Sharpie mark-up of an outdated hurricane forecast map. Rather than apologize, Trump continued to lie about the hurricane risk to Alabama for days.

"Dude, just put down the Sharpie. You don't always have to be right. I'm sick of arguing about this."

double down 

Originally a term used in the card game blackjack, where a player doubles their original bet in exchange for exactly one additional card; most useful when the remaining deck is offering extremely favorable odds of making a total of twenty-one.

The term is increasingly used as a media euphemism when political figures tell bald-faced lies and when confronted with contradictory statements, the politician not only fails to retract their claims but instead expresses an increased certainty in their truth.

The political candidate claimed that 99% of the violent crimes committed in the United States were perpetrated by Canadians. When challenged with data indicating that in fact less that 0.1 percent of crimes are committed by Canadians, the candidate opted to double down, claiming that the data was incorrect. Further, the candidate pledged to, if elected, expel all US citizens with Canadian ancestry from the country.

Term used to signify that you are really focused on your work, often used as an excuse to shoo away inquiring co-workers. Literally means you have your head down permanently affixed to your computer screen.
