Originally a hand gesture, the act of breaking something and the sharp cracking noise occurring from both. However, it has come to be a slang for purging something due to the main villain of Avengers Infinity War, Thanos, purging half of the universe with the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity Stones with a snap.

During World War II, Nazi leader and dictator Adolf Hitler snapped over 6 million Jews and many others due to the Holocaust.

John: Dude, you should get Red Dead Redemption 2. It's such an awesome game!
Joe: Sorry, I can't. My computer is full so I gotta snap most of the junk on it.
