When a wealthy individual, having rapaciously climbed the ladders of success to get to the top, feels pangs of guilt for the unethical deeds done along the way to get there. Fearing a legacy of scorn, or, if a believer, an eternity of damnation, he or she takes out "fire insurance" in the form of donations to charity and / or public displays of contrition at speaking events, etc.

Get the you're fired mug.Donald Trump's catchphrase. Contrary to popular belief, however, the phrase was not originally popularized by him. In point of fact, the phrase entered popular culture in the 1963 animated series, "The Jetsons." George Jetson's (the titular character) boss, Mr. Spacely, could be seen in multiple episodes threatening to (or following through) fire George Jetson. It was a running gag throughout the series.
