"Emo IS a music genre that started in the 1980's called "Emocore". Some people like to dress in the "Emo" style. The society thinks about them as failures; that they are not strong enough to hide their emotions, they're sensitive, shy, introverted, and often quiet. The term 'emo' itself is used nowadays as an insult. Emocore is COMPARED (not is) with pop boy bands of 1990s. Critics cast the music as lacking any artistic merit and that the fashion is just a fashion used to drive girls attention. The ones who are emo not because they feel it, but because they like to be trendy are named 'posers'. A big percent of the current emo subculture is formed by posers. Emo subculture is acused that it is celebrating self-harm. in recent years the media has linked the Emo scene closely with issues of cutting and self-harm, but in reality there is no medical or cultural link that connects it to any one social group. Self-harming stems from some serious mental illnesses, namely borderline personality disorder, and is also carried out by people who are suffering, or who have suffered from significant trauma or emotional upset. Cutting is also usually linked to other psychological symptoms such as depression, social phobia and extreme anxiety. When you look at the medical reasons behind cutting and self-harming, it is impossible to suggest it affects any one group of individuals, and so claiming that somehow a fundamental part of the Emo culture is very misleading." hiiii. i'm your typical emo kid (;. i dye mah hair black because it matches my clothes. i usually wear skinny jeans and tight t-shirts from Hot Topic. my favorite song from blink-182 is "I Miss You" because the first line involves a dead angel. my favorite flower is a black rose.i'm obsessed with Gir and whatever fad Hot Topic throws out. oh, I like the Sour Cream and Onion flavored crickets there. when I eat them it makes me feel like a vampireeee<3. rawr. hey did ya know that rawr means i love you in dinosaurrr? i got a shirt that says that. guess where I got it? uhh yes Hot Topic! my favoriteee bands are my chemical romance, black veil brides, fall out boy, and brokencyde. i cut myself, but only because it relieves stress. i also like skateboarding. uhhhhh and thats my life. i also have 10 piercings.

Alot of people will see an Emo and start bitching even though they don't know the person.
There are many different reasons for people to want to be emo. Some people just like the fashion statements, some feel that it is the perfect way to express themselves, some feel they have been driven to it.
But, unless you actually know the person, you really can't say anything bad about them.
People often tag Emo kids as 'Rude, Anti-social, Freak and many more 'obscene' words'
When infact most Emo's are actually really great people, they are fun, sensitive and they are so easy to be around.
There is nothing wrong with being Emo. The typical 'Emo Stereotype' is wrong in many cases.
The main point of being Emo is that you can express yourself freely, in whatever way you want to.
Emo kids often look like the scene kids, there are a few tiny differences between the two but they are quite alike really.
The Emo community is a fast growing and increasingly popular style among the younger generations.
In other words what i'm trying to say is; Emo is THE SEXX!!!

To me emo is a style i am def not a middle class teenage girl im a lower middle class mommy of 2 and i have a scene hair cut and since i have been in junior high have dyed my hair funky colors and wore rock shirts and skate shoes and still do then i was considered a candy kid or raver but never went to a rave now all the sudden im emo nope im me thanks and from what i gather emo is a genre of music so i dont go around saying i hate jocks do i people are people thank you!! And just to let you know ive never cut my self out of self loathing but i have gotten a tattoo to express things i am feeling and im also a very happy human being ive never been depressed a day in my life!!! im just fun and love to express that in my style!!
