A sellout is someone who changes, how they act, who they are, or what they do for personal advancement. A sellout is someone who would ditch what built them to become more popular. Basically, if a guy who constantly ripped on clothes such as joggers, vineyard vines, skinny jeans, and other fuck boy clothes one year did a complete 180 and the next year wore skinny jeans vineyard vines and their hats backwards
Sellouts are common in music:
Florida Georgia Line (a pop-country duo) was once part of the newer wave of country- different from the George Straight/Kenny Rodgers era- but they have completely switched over to almost 100% pop music
The popular internet company Barstool Sports’s founder has sold out (and forced his company to also):
Barstool was once half a dozen guys who wrote funny blogs typically being about sports but sometimes other topics for their website. They weren’t ever politically correct or afraid to say anything... fast forward 10, maybe 15 years, and Barstool is now a multimedia company that has become more (not completely) politically correct. One of the more popular long time bloggers wasn’t even allowed to use the word “faggot” in a video.
