Xanatos research

Any program of research in which any possible pattern of results, including null results, leads to interesting, publishable findings. Related to the concept of a Xanatos gambit, where any possible outcome to a scheme or plan leads to a victory for the mastermind of the plan.

Did you hear about the new experiment we're running on the XYZ phenomenon? It's totes Xanatos research. Either we're going to show that XYZ is real... or if the effect isn't there we have enough subjects to do equivalence testing to show that the existing results in the literature about XYZ are specious.

After completing a task to a high standard with little or no effort, a person may be told that they reek of awesomeness.

resentment

When you do something or make a decision based on pleasing somebody else. The important factor is that the direction you took (the action or decision) was taken only to satisfy the other person and not something you would have normally chosen to do. Regret surfaces and you secrectly hold it against that person. You may or may not take it out on them, but it does eat you up inside.

Emily had always dreamed of moving to the city after college, but her boyfriend was dead-set against it. As a result, she never moved there because she wanted to be with him. She's harbored resentment for him ever since.

Finding yourself in a place or being in a intense state of indescribable smelliness. A state of reek. (I think I saw it in the movie "Lady in the Water" when the guys smoking pot were making up words.)

research project

An example of child slavery. A really crappy project every Year 11 student in South Australia is forced to do against their own will. You have to research one question for six months straight, and you get bored to death. You don't graduate if you don't do it, and there's a high chance of failing and losing brain cells.

Student 1: "What lesson u got next"
Student 2: "research project"
Student 1: "Oh shit"
Student 2: "I'd rather jump off the Westpac Building"
