Hero's protect, anti-heros destroy. Hero's rescue victims, Antiheroes create victims and perceive themselves as one. Hero's are reliable narrators, anti-heros are not. As a hero grows into his cape, as it were, we find the anti-hero's ego outgrowing everything and everyone, eclipsing everything else.
A hero is a hero in actions, he doesn't need you to know it or tell him so. An anti-hero needs you to validate how hard they had it and how they moulded that into gold- They are walking contradictions, and the journey ends when their egos become so massive, they collapse in on themselves like a dying star.
