Getting taken back to the Stone Age wouldn't be progress and it wouldn't improve race relations, but it would be a change in direction, and some people love any change as long as it's change. They don't want a slow, steady, and natural progress made, they want a change now when they want it, and if they don't get it they'll walk over anybody they can (anybody they think is the weak one) to try and get their way, to get others to say yes to them instead of no.

When you enjoy yet neglect to like someone's facebook post, but upon extenuating boredom, you see it again and end up liking it out of some newfound lightheartedness.
Laura's picture of her poodle taking her spot in bed when she got up to go to the bathroom was cute. I ended up having a change of like and sending her blowy kisses for the next hour.

Hardly any change doesn't make things worse. Telling people things will get worse before they get better is misleading, but it sounds good. The reality is things often get worse before they keep getting worse and worse, spiraling out of control in the end. The light at the end of a tunnel isn't guaranteed to be daylight, and people that rely on someone else to pull them from the darkness are fucked, but nobody tells them they are.

There's a lot of people who are quick to try and change something that's been there for decades or longer, but don't want to preserve anything that's been around a while, they only seem to want to preserve something new and fresh, something that just got done.
The guy/girl wanted everything he/she wasn't a part of or didnt do with his/her group eliminated, but wanted everything he/she/they did do preserved forever. They thought everyone had to welcome and agree with their thoughts about change, and that anybody who disagreed should die.
