The act of excessively worshipping a character (real or fictional), usually one who is explicitly stated and/or shown to be not exactly morally upright, if not outright evil. Often, someone who stans will completely ignore all of the negative things about the character, or excessively downplay the negative parts to an illogical degree.

A fan of the Marvel character Wanda Maximoff. Opinions on Wanda stans are very divided, because some can be genuinely nice, while others are fucking dumbasses. They will believe that Wanda solos every single character in existence. They will also protect her and stand by her side no matter what horrendous actions she does.
