Now-a-days, anyone referred to as gothic have the stereotypical image of black clothes, dark make-up sometimes, and listening to heavy, dark music and may be considered depressed all the time and is sadistic. Most times this is not the case, example is my friends. Dressing the part is not 'gothic', which they don't seem to understand..sigh..

Get the Goth Butter Bang mug.A label people give to themselves to see themselves in a certain way, and/or to hope that other people will see them in this way also. There are many definitions of dress-code and personality types, (some would say that they are really creative and intelligent, others would say that they are people who have experienced more pain than most people) but it's just a label that was invented by ordinary people and for ordinary people, probably out of attention-seeking. Now the word seems to be spoken in two ways: As an insult to people who seem this way, and by people who are this way to describe themselves or maybe friends of theirs.

-"Yeah, what an asshole. Let's throw stuff at him/her."

There are two types of Neo-Goths. There's the more emo-oriented Neo-Goths, typically My Chemical Romance and Panic! At the Disco fans. They usually wear skinny jeans, pale face makeup, way too much black eye/lip makeup, and emo/pop-punk band shirts.
Then there's the other type, also known as mallgoths. They wear baggy black pants with way too many chains, baggy black band shirts, leather bracelets/chokers with spikes on them, and often have trashy looking dyed dreadlocks or a trashy looking dyed Mohawk. They typically listen to shitty nu-metal bands such as Slipknot and Korn, as well as Marilyn Manson and ICP.
Both types usually have shitty attitudes despite having nothing to be shitty about, they usually fake mental illnesses and alternate sexualities.
Very few Neo-Goths are actually cool, but if you find one, they can be entertaining to watch.
Both also like to use ridiculous sayings and catchphrases like "rawr xD" and "OMG so random lulzz"

Personally, true gothic people are caring, understanding, and usually outcasts. The reason this is is not just because of their all black clothing (which is only the case for a vast majority of them, while some do not wear all black), but also it is due to their beliefs being either against the mainstream, or some other bullshit reason.
Gothic people tend to be legitimate, hard working indivuals.... who would have guessed?! (hard sarcasm). These people who are usually self proclaimed gothics tend to be the occultists, which is the stereotype the "general public" has made for this word. Those people are typically satanists (those who worship the devil, and commit crimes in their worship, not following the true satanic religion set by Anton Lavey). These people often tend to be rude, or otherwise ignorant, people. This again is the common stereotype.
The gothic community (yes there is such a thing) sees these people as fakes, or people trying to fit in. This is most likely the case, and should therefore be reestablished to a more prominent word... maybe ass holes, or suicidal bitches. When a person is truly gothic, that individual most commonly is a practicing pagan, wiccan, TRUE SATANIST, or other occult of appropriate fitting. Remember, occultists are not devil worshippers.

They do not like to blend in; rather, they like to stand out and be noticed for their uniqueness. They are not trying to "get attention" so they can be attention whores. I really enjoy my gothic friends, they are very understanding of what I believe and back me up. They sometimes help me question things I never thought about before.
