Emo is a word of many definitions and its about time there was a non biased opinion up here.
1) A variety of music, generally perceived as having depressing or emotional lyrics and sometimes including references to hell, satan, death and other generally frowned on topics. Not to be confused with heavy metal or death metal, emo has a gentler guitar solo, however it has been known to mix itself with other dark varieties of music.
Well known bands that include themselves in an emo stereotype would be Paramore and MCR.
2) Emo People
It is commonly understood that there are two types of "emo" people.
Type A - the emotional
A person who is well known to self harm and promote other destructive activities with suicide being related to them often. A common misconception of emotionals is that they are lonely people. In reality an emotional can belong in any stereotype and have a social circle of any size. They can also keep their self harm a secret or choose to have it well known. They are often considered to be attention seeking and depressing, with tendancies to write lyrics or poems themed with death and love and strong desires to sit in dark corners.
Type B - the "emo faggot"
The "emo faggot" is the least liked variety of emo. Generally known to wear tutu's, skinny jeans and MCR T-Shirts they are easily spotted in a crowd and receive a lot of abuse from other stereotype gangs. This stereotype is now expanding into a new era with the group known as scene kids.
Emo faggots tend to either despise the term "emo" or treasure it, their opinion can base itself on their mood, their company or the time, date or weather.
They are also well known to pursue hobbies such as photography, metal or "emo" music listening and the aforementioned poetry and lyric writing.
The stereotype is generally shunned by other members of society and the "emos" themselves tend to blame society for their state of minds.
Their future is indefinite, however elderly emo's have yet to be sighted in public areas. Search teams have been sent out but currently they have produced no hard evidence to suggest that this mythical species exists.
Therefore we can optimisticly assume that "emos" eventually do, in time, reach a more stable mentality. We can also pessimisticly assume that they all die, but the question will only be answered in a half decent fashion after many people who know not very much, write very long books on the subject, and eventually people who know a lot more ignore the books and grow tired of the question, resultinh in them guessing an answer that we shall all assume is correct.

Omg! Did you see the singer of “Riding over a bloody river on broken wings”? I loved his makeup. It was like the caked on eyeliner effect is like really hot!! And his jeans. . .how can he fit into a size 0? I can’t even do that. These are commonly heard phrases from so-called “emo” kids. I’ll let you in on a little secret. EMO KIDS DON’T EXIST. I bet you all are thinking, are you blind? No my friends, emo indeed doesn’t not exist.
Emo is a type of music, not a type of person. Ignorant people who use titles such as “she’s so emo” should be corrected. The proper terminology is “Scene” which is a type of fashion that emulates the current fashion in Indie, and Hardcore music, considered Passé by most people who are involved within each genre of music stated above. For instance people who listened to those types of music originally wore “mosh hats”, Vans Slip-ons or Chuck Taylors, Corduroy blazers, and tight jeans. Soon there after, caricatures of these trends pop up on people trying to fit in by displaying these articles of clothing.
Contrary to popular belief, “emo” doesn’t mean emotional. If it did, every single song ever created would be considered “emo”. Starting with the break up of Minor Threat (a straight edge hardcore band) in Washington D.C during the 80’s, some hardcore bands took a turn to a softer side of music. This became “Emotional Hardcore”, not to get confused with just emotional. This is where “emo” came from. Emo is short for Emotional Hardcore. Bands from the late 90’s to today, are not “emo”. To call them such would be an insult to hardcore music. If you want to know what real “emo” music is, download Sunny Day Real Estate, Texas is the reason, Jawbreaker, and Fugazi.

Get the emomug. Urban dictionary has a lot of definitoins on emo, and most of them are BULL-!
Aren't stereotypes in general BULL-? Emos are not whiney, rich kids who think life sucks and try to kill themselves- that's called stereotyping. And besides, you don't have to be rich to shop at Hot Topic. Since when does anyone not want to be themselves and be an individual. Who cares if you don't look a certain way, or you don't have to act a certain way either. Just be yourself.

Get the emomug. Short for the word emotional. The word originated in the DC with the Band Rites Of Spring. The band called the fans emo because of the style of their music.Nowadays, people consider emo as a lable to people who are generally depressed and very romantic. Even though some people that are emo arent really depressed but enjoy the emo music and the clothing style. Most emos skateboard and shop at Hot Topic TM.Some emo bands are Taking back sunday, and dasboard confessional. If you wanna talk to a emo kid im this sn Xucantsavemex56.

most the time, emos are only emos to get into that scene. there are people out there that are much worse off.
my friend is having his third round of cancer. he may not even make it through. he has lost his leg, and is still outgoing chemotherapy. he does not cut, and doesnt die his hair black!! he is the happiest person when your with him, and hes and awesome bloke. take that for an example.
grow the hell up. emos go nowhere in life. live life to the full and stop sooking.
dont kill yourself, dont cut yourself.
read the bible or something! turn your life around! you can possible be a normal person!

an Emo is a person who dresses close to a gothic, and cuts their selves. they think it is more specific. but seriously, depression is made up by the world, if you never knew you were depressed, you woudlnt act that way. your fine.
